Leopard - Trusters

While I get on with casting the HBK, the extra space lets me also run the MDX-40A. I've started the first part of 5 that makes up the left thruster.

About 6hrs machining left remaining here.

I'm still searching for some one who'll either rent me or cut for me some boards widths needed for some of the parts. Google failed me I think it'll just be driving around to various workshops hoping some one takes pity.

  1. What sort of boards do you need?

    1. the model board I use comes in 5cm thickness I need to cut that into thinner sections 12x29x1cm and alike (12 being the max width on the MDX40-A and 29 being the max length) to not have to split thin sections. Its not going to affect the model if I have too but for production it means writing x2 code x2 tool changes etc and waste. Annoyingly my bandsaw can only cut too 8.5cm depth.

I've rang every rental company here the list the saw but all come back with to stay they no longer have one to rent. And its not like workshops list cutting service. So i have to door to door a local industrial estate hoping some one can cut the boards for me.

  2. What are they made from? I could possibly help you out, I have access to a small woodworking workshop. Will a normal saw blade cut them?

    1. they are called chemical wood, basically resin with additives to make them stronger. There are similar to hard wood any saw can cut them its whether you have a saw that can make a 12cm depth straight cut. I'm in Southwest London UK.

I know the guys who work on my car could cut it for me. I should have put some board in when they came to get the car but forgot and they are base in Oxford and I'd have to drive up there to make sure the cuts were done right since the board is stupid expensive (hence not wanted to waste any)

  3. Sorry for the slow reply, busy week. The 12cm depth shouldn't be a problem I don't think. A cut on a bandsaw that deep however wouldn't be terribly fine (rough sawn!). It might not be cost effective to ship it though as I'm in the north east. I'm sure I can help you out if you're really stuck :)
